Season 7 Champion: ravensfutbal

Going into the Championship Tournament, it looked like it was going to be tough to overcome the point totals of the Top 3. With the bonus and bounty points in the tournament, however, everything is up for grabs.

ravensfutbal took advantage of an early potnets exit, a couple of bounties and a solid second place finish to slip past potnets and win the League Champion title. Congrats ravensfutbal!

EJ89 started the tournament in 7th place, but was able to take down several bounties and outlast ravensfutbal in a long heads-up battle to win the tournament and edge COLUMBIADC for the league third place spot. potnets took second in the league.

The league payouts:

1) ravensfutbal, $90
2) potnets, $54
3) EJ89, $36

Season 7 Rules and Details

Updated 6/11/2010

The league details for Season 7 (this post will be kept up to date with the latest information):

League Details

The league will have a $15 league fee which will go completely towards the league prize pool.

All league fees and payouts will be processed via PokerStars transfers. To pay a league fee initiate a funds transfer to player "potnets" (will show city as Columbia). Please take care to ensure the transfer is going to the right place. Other payment methods can be accommodated but PS transfer is strongly preferred.

All players in the weekly tournament will earn points, with significantly more points going to the higher finishing places. Points accumulate over the season to determine a champion at the end with the most points. The lowest score for each player over the 10-week season will be dropped, to accommodate late-joining players and people missing an occasional tournament.

LEAGUE FEES MUST BE CURRENT BEFORE EACH TOURNAMENT STARTS IN ORDER TO EARN POINTS IN THAT TOURNAMENT. NO EXCEPTIONS.

A league "season" will consist of ten weekly tournaments followed by a Championship Tournament.

League format:
A weekly private tournament on PokerStars for $5+.50
Tournaments for Season 7 will be NL Holdem
Tournaments will be Tuesday nights at 9pm EST starting June 22, 2010
Tournament password will be made available on the league blog prior to the tournament
Every league member who plays will get league points, with points ramping up the higher you place

Bounty: For Season 6 there will be a 5 point bounty on the winner of the previous week. A consecutive tournament winner will not collect their own bounty. The week 1 bounty is the Season 5 Champion.

Additional Prizes: PokerStars has once again generously offered additional prizes for the league: 2 Sunday Million tickets for the leaders after weeks 4 and 10, and custom PokerStars shirts for the Top 3 at the end of the season. Thank you PokerStars!

NOTE: Season 7 will be the last season for this Sunday Million giveaway from PokerStars.

When determining the points leaders for Weeks 4 and 10, the following will apply:
Week 4 leader: Will NOT reflect the lowest score dropped
Week 10 leader: Will reflect the lowest score dropped

Also, note that one player cannot win both tickets; if the leader after Week 10 already won a ticket, the second ticket will go to the next player on the leader board.

At the end of the season, the Top 9 players in league points will play a Championship Tourney, which will also add to the points total. This will be a $10+1 NL Holdem tournament. In addition to the regular scoring, this tournament will also offer bonus points as follows:

The bounties and bonus points for the Championship Tourney are as follows:

Bounties
There will be a league points bounty (no cash bounty) on everyone in the Championship, but it will be a weighted bounty based on the leaderboard going into the tourney, as follows:

PlaceBounty
1)9 pts
2)8 pts
3)7 pts
4)6 pts
5)5 pts
6)4 pts
7)3 pts
8)
9)
alt

2 pts
1 pt
1 pt

Bonus points
There will be additional bonus points for finishing in the money in the Championship, as follows:

PlaceBonus
1)20 pts
2)10 pts
3)5 pts

The season ends after the championship tournament, with the league prize pool distributed over the top 3 point leaders. The number of payouts may be adjusted depending on how many people are in the league.

Two league policies to be aware of:

1) Sitting out - Any player that registers for a tourney but doesn't actually play any hands (i.e. sits out until blinded off) will receive last place points for that tourney. It is OK (and even encouraged) to register to get 5 points for a tourney you can't attend, but it isn't fair to get more points than an active player in that case. You must actually play at least one hand in a tourney to be eligible for more than last place points.

2) Non-league players - Non-league players are welcome to play in any regular league tournaments. This only increases the weekly prize pool, and league points are only awarded to active league players. No league points will be awarded retroactively should a player later join the league. Non-league players are not eligible to win a cash bounty. Of course, anyone playing in these tournaments is welcome and encouraged to join the league!

Announcing Season 7 - NL Holdem!!

After a brief rest, the MD DonkFest Poker League is back for Season 7, which hopefully will be our biggest season ever. A $15 entry fee goes entirely into the season prize pool, to be shared by the points leaders after 10 regular season games and the Championship Tournament.

Up for grabs once again this season will be two Sunday Million entries, each worth $215, generously provided to the league by PokerStars!! This may be your best opportunity to get into a Sunday Million for next to nothing!

NOTE: This will be the last season that PokerStars provides the Sunday Million entries, so don't miss out on this great chance.

The weekly tournaments take place Tuesday nights at 9pm on PokerStars.

Season 7 will kick off Tuesday, June 22. Registration is open now. To register, transfer $15 on PokerStars to "potnets (Columbia)" - please make sure you transfer to the right account. To pay via PayPal, please send $16 ($1 to cover fees) to wawhite at gmail dot com (cleverly encoded).

Complete season rules and details will be posted shortly. Start spreading the word, and register today!

Season 6 Champion: HiRoller88!

Congratulations to the Season 6 Champion, HiRoller88!

Things were shaken up early when the points leader, COLUMBIADC, was knocked out first. Gonavy25 made a strong bid to move into the Top 3 for the season, but could not put away HiRoller88 who took down 4 bounties along with the tournament to overtake potnets and secure the top spot for the season. Remarkably, this was the first win of the season for HiRoller88, but the 7th cash, an impressive display of consistency and strong play.

The Championship Tournament was won by HiRoller88, with Gonavy25 in second and potnets third. For the season, HiRoller88 was first ($125), potnets second ($75) and COLUMBIADC third ($50). Congratulations and thanks to all that played this season!

Week 10 Reminder

The eligible points leader after Week 10 will win the second Sunday Million ticket provided to the league by PokerStars. Note that the same player cannot win both tickets, so COLUMBIADC is not eligible.

Week 9 Results

There was a hitch on game day, with the tournament time being 1pm instead of 9pm. This wasn't noticed until after the tournament ran, affecting 6 players (myself included). As soon as this was noticed the correct tournament was posted and I tried to notify everyone using all means possible - email, facebook, twitter and the blog. One again, apologies for the error.

8 players showed up for the Week 9 Stud event. HiRoller88 jumped out to a big lead, but was chased down and settled for third. potnets took second, and ravensfutbal scored the win and the bounty. xICEPICKx was registered for the errant tournament but didn't enter the corrected tournament. Since this may have been due to not seeing the notifications on short notice, I made the decision to award him 5 league points.

The results:

The updated Top 8 (lowest score dropped):

COLUMBIADC(2) 150.18

Week 9 tonight, with a format of Stud and the bounty is on potnets.

Week 8 Results

It was requested that I post the results tonight, and given the outcome I'm happy to oblige. :-)

The format was HOSE, with 13 players. COLUMBIADC took third (and potnets got the bounty for knocking him out). MagnetEng and potnets battled back and forth for a while before both pulled an open-ended straight draw on 4th street. MagnetEng paired on 6th, but potnets hit the straight on 7th to take it down.

The results:

IMPORTANT NOTE: The second Sunday Million ticket goes to the points leader after Week 10, but as the rules state the same person cannot win both so COLUMBIADC is not eligible for it. If COLUMBIADC is still in the lead after Week 10 it will go to the second place player.

The Updated Top 8 (lowest score dropped):

COLUMBIADC(2) 143.63
potnets(1) 112.88

Week 6 Results

The Week 6 Heads Up NL Holdem tournament drew 11 players. There was some grumbling about the first round, where 5 people received a bye and the rest played to even out the rest of the rounds. This is how Heads Up tournaments are structured, and the initial selection is random. If enough people don't like this format we can drop it from future seasons.

BeardieDog was the tournament winner, besting HiRoller88 who took second. xICEPICKx and COLUMBIADC both cashed and received 4th place points. potnets took out Gonavy25 for a second consecutive bounty.

The results:

The Updated Top 8 (Lowest score dropped):

COLUMBIADC(1) 94.25
Parrot2006(1) 86.66
HiRoller88 84.18
Gonavy25(1) 73.26

Biggfella(1) 65.56

Week 5 Results

Week 5's 8-game drew a relatively small number with 13 players, but still turned into a marathon that didn't end until 12:30am. We were down to 4 at 11pm, then it took 35 minutes to get to 3 and another 35 minutes to get to 2. In that 70 minutes 167 hands were played - by contrast it only took 198 hands to eliminate the first 9 players. In the end Gonavy25 outlasted ravensfutbal for the win, with potnets taking third and the bounty.

Game Day!

Tonight is Week 2, with a format of Pot Limit Omaha.

It's not too late to join - the lowest score of the season is dropped, so missing Week 1 is not a penalty if you join now.

Oops, almost forgot... PokerStars is apparently trying their hand at a fake viral campaign, which IMO misses the point, but in any event I still like losing my money on their site, which is why playing poker is clearly a game of skill. There, I did my part.

Season 6 Rules and Details

Updated 2/4/2010

The league details for Season 6 (this post will be kept up to date with the latest information):

CHANGES FOR SEASON 6:

Bounties: players cannot collect a bounty on themselves, either in the regular season or in the Championship.

PokerStars bonus prizes: Players can only win one of the Sunday Million tickets; if they are still leading for the second ticket it will go to the next player on the leader board. Also, the prizes will be shifted to Week 4 (to get a little more track record for the win) and Week 10 (to have a regular season winner heading into the Championship).

Feedback on these changes and suggestions for other changes are welcome.

League Details

The league will have a $15 league fee which will go completely towards the league prize pool.

Alternatively, a $2 fee can be paid to play in a single weekly tournament. This will allow latecomers to still get in, and possibly encourage occasional players. This obviously is more of a pain to manage, so it is hoped that most will pay the season fee instead.

A weekly private tournament on PokerStars for $5+.50
Tournaments for Season 6 will be Mixed Games (schedule here)
Tournaments will be Tuesday nights at 9pm EST starting February 16, 2010

At the end of the season, the Top 8 players in league points will play a Championship Tourney, which will also add to the points total. This will be a $10+1 HORSE tournament.

PlaceBounty
1)9 pts
2)8 pts
3)7 pts
4)6 pts
5)5 pts
6)4 pts
7)3 pts
8)

2 pts

Registration Open: Season 6 - Mixed Games

Registration is now open for Season 6 of the MD DonkFest Poker League. The format this season is Mixed Games. The season will kick off on Tuesday, Feb 16 at 9pm EST.

Using input from the Mixed Games Poll (turns out Badugi is NOT a fan favorite...), here is the line-up for this season:

HORSE
Omaha PL
Razz
Stud H/L
8 Game
Holdem NL Heads Up
Omaha H/L Fixed
HOSE
Stud
Triple Draw 2-7 Fixed

Championship: HORSE

The rules for Season 6 will be posted shortly. To register, transfer the $15 league fee via PokerStars to potnets (Columbia). All of the league fee goes directly into the prize pool for the season. PokerStars is once again generously contributing two Sunday Million tickets, so tell your friends - we need more players for this promotion to continue.

Good luck everyone, and thanks for playing!
