POLL - Format for Season 2

The MDP league had an alternating schedule for tournament seasons - they would alternate between a season of NL Hold 'em and a season of mixed games (stud, hold'm limit and NL, omaha, razz, HORSE, etc). People seemed to like this since it changed things up a bit. Some people don't like the other games though. So I'm looking for input on what format we should use for Season 2. There is a poll over there on the right, and there is also a poll over on FftD. Comments are also welcome.

Game Day!

Week 3 of Season 1 takes place tonight at 9pm. The 5 point bounty will be on potnets. Tournament information over on the right.

If you've been on the sidelines, it's not too late to get in. We had several new players join last week, and two of them finished in the money putting them in the top 10 overall. New players are "seeded" with a few points - half the points of the current low score - so you are not starting from scratch. Including tonight, there are eight tournaments left in the regular season - lots of points up for grabs!

Good luck everyone!

MDP is Dead, Long Live FftD!

In its heyday, mdpoker.com was a pretty cool place to hang out. It wasn't perfect - the owners of the site had basically put the site on autopilot - but it got the job done, and many of the folks in this league met each other and stayed connected through MDP.

Tragically, MDP was struck down a couple of months ago, a victim of a virtual drive-by shooting. Despite assurances from the owners that MDP would be back quickly, brain functions ceased and all that is left is for the plug to be pulled. MDP is over, its members slowly wandering away from their keyboards and rejoining normal society.

But normal society wasn't the answer. The void needed to be filled. Enter Forum for the Degenizens - FftD for short. The faithful began discovering it as it took shape, and it is now ready to take its place as a premium time-suck in the lives of former MDP-dwellers. But it is much more than a MDP replacement - this place is all about its members.

Playoff/Payout Details

Here is how the end of the season will go.

After the 10 regular weeks of the season, the 9 players at the top of the scoreboard will play in a "Championship" STT. The points from this tournament will be added to the regular season totals to determine the final league standings.

Since the Championship STT will not have the usual bounty in play, it will be a 2-pt knockout tourney instead. Each player will essentially have a 2-pt bounty - knock someone out, you get their 2 points. The tourney winner keeps the 2 points they they didn't give up. So that puts 18 extra points into play for the Championship in addition to the usual tournament points - lots of opportunity to move up in the standings. It also makes getting into the top 9 critical during the regular season!

At the conclusion of the Championship tourney the top 3 point leaders overall will get a share of the league prize pool, as follows:

1st place - 50%
2nd place - 30%
3rd place - 20%

Game Day!

Week 2 of Season 1 is tonight, 9pm EST. Details over on the right.

As a reminder, it's not to late to join (or to recruit others)! As the season progresses new players entering the league will start with half the points of the lowest score. One good finish and you are right in the mix.

Rumor has it E was going to join the league, but he has been laying low. Group peer pressure encouraged.

As a wise MDP poster once said... "Get yer balls in there!"

Week 2 - Jump In!

The battered combatants from week one are getting set for week two, Tuesday night at 9pm. It's not too late to join in! Placing high in any given week will give you a big jump in the standings, and we give new players a few points to get started (half the lowest score). Plus there's always a 5-point bounty on the previous week's winner.

Most of the people that played week 1 probably know someone that was interested or on the fence - apply that peer pressure! The league will be better the more people we have in it.

Week 2

The Week 2 tournament has been created - the password is PLQE98nK. There will be a 5 league point bounty on EJ89, who won week 1.

It's not too late for new players to join the league. New players entering after the season starts will start with half the points of the lowest score. For example, someone starting this week would be starting with 2.5 points, since the lowest score is 5.

Week 1 Results

We had 13 players battle it out in week 1, with EJ89 taking down the top spot along with the 5 point bounty. The honor of going out first went to Craig1625. The remaining field battled for about an hour and a half, with the top 3 spots going to EJ89, potnets and FiveFingerz. The final hand was JJ vs. TT, all-in preflop. A Jack on the flop (along with 2 6's) and a Ten on the turn made it interesting, but the jacks held up in a boat-over-boat finale. The rundown:

The points standings after week 1 of 10:

EJ89 36.06
potnets 20.50
FiveFingerz 15.82
mxrider 13.03
nekendrick 11.12
ravensfutbal 9.72
maddoggy44 8.63
UAEgreg 7.75
DarkRattler 7.02
themerk08 6.40
laxstarr1995 5.87
BaltoBruiser 5.41
Craig1625 5.00

Fun with AdSense

Some of you may have noticed the little Google-placed ads over on the right side of the screen. Google decides what ads "fit" based on the content of the page, and if people actually click on the ads a tiny bit of ad revenue can be generated (if any money is actually generated here, BTW, it will either go into the season pool or towards cash bounties - this is non-profit).

Anyway, so far all of the ads have been poker-related as expected, and some of them even look like decent websites. Today, however, they started running an ad about dealing with psoriasis. Hmmm. Maybe they know a little TOO much about us.

Of course, now I've mentioned psoriasis so their methodology has just been confirmed. Rats. Oh well, let's try a new one: herpes. Herpes, herpes, herpes. Let's see what you got, Google!
